BTW, KDSS, good to see you here as a regular contributor again.
I too find it super difficult to root for the annoying Eaters, but I suppose we're obligated just to prop up the conference.
Regarding the NIT: it's an absolute travesty what's going on. The level of disrespect (including USC and UCLA) for college sports continues to rise as programs decline invitations. Well stated by Coach Tom Crean (doing TV for ESPN right now) in noting how terrible it is for coaches to rob their coaches and players the chance to coach more, to play more - and further develop the programs (also emphasized players who may never play again, i.e. seniors).
These programs should be ashamed and are mocking collegiate athletics.
Watching the Butler/Minnesota game, it's HIGH LEVEL basketball. Fantastic, strong teams. Just really disrespectful for programs to do that.
GO BEACH
Hard to root of UCI, but I will be watching the game and rooting for Russ and his his players. Would be good for the conference if they could continue to win in the NIT.
I was watching sports TV for a while this afternoon and they were saying that a number of school TURNED DOWN invites to the NIT. I wonder what that says for this tournament going forward in the future???
