I miss my '80 Malibu and don't like this '70 Chevelle that I picked up, so I'm wondering if anybody has a somewhat decent G-body ('78-later Malibu, Buick Regal, or Olds Cutlass) that they'd want to trade for a project '70 Chevelle. The Chevelle came from California, and is a good starting point for either a street/strip car, drag car, or restoration. As it sits right now, it's kind of a bucket. The biggest problem is that the VIN tag rotted off (you can still see the rivets & part of the tag), so there's no title. Based off a search using the old CA license plate, the car fell out of the MVD system a long time ago and is a clean (not stolen) car, so getting a new VIN assigned with the AZ MVD won't be any problem, but I don't want to deal with it. The car has solid floors and trunk pan. There's a couple of very small spots where rust has started in the rear quarters and in the lip that holds the rear windshield (the rear windshield is out of it), but no cancer or major rot that I can find. The frame is straight and in great shape with no evidence of any collisions that I can find. The front fenders had the start of some rust repair in the quarters, but needs finished. The front clip was taken off of the car in pieces, but it's all there, including the trim, moldings, etc. The car has factory front disc brakes, power steering, and was originally an A/C car (gutted). The interior is mostly gone, and what's left isn't in great condition EXCEPT for the dash. The dash is in great shape, and the dash pad has one corner that is broken, but no other damage and is repairable. The body is straight, but needs paint. There is no engine or transmission (tranny x-member is still there), and the stock 8.2" 10-bolt is out back, but it's been gutted (all that's left is the axles).
I have all new front suspension pieces for the car, a fresh manual steering box w/pitman arm, new rear control arm bushings, new brake pads/calipers/hardware, and a set of Hooker Super Comp 2-1/8" headers for a BBC that go with the car. The headers are used, but in excellent condition (no flat tubes on the bottom, no rust).
I'd like to trade for a half-way decent G-body if anybody's interested... basically something that's stock/original that I can plug my drivetrain into and go down the road. I don't care if it's running or not, a roller w/no motor or tranny, a V-6 car, etc. Let me know. Thanks!
Pete
