The vet said his bladder feels normal and he was able to express urine. His kidney also appears totally normal. He should have the blood results back later and will call me tonight, but he said that he would be shocked if it showed anything but normal.
He also related to me that at the time Edgar was at the AMC, the two top nephrologists in the world were in residence (one a regular AMC vet, the other visiting from London). Also, while he was undergoing dialysis, they were in the midst of a dialysis convention!
The vet said that Edgar sparked many lively arguments and all the vets were divided as to how to treat him. One camp, led by the house radiologist, thought that his kidney had no chance of recovering and functioning normally after surgery and that it would be a waste of time, money, and pain to put him through it. The other camp disagreed and thought he had a shot at recovery IF the very risky surgery ended with a positive outcome. Luckily, the question was decided for everyone when Edgar spontaneously started urinating again! I told the Dr. I hoped he really rubbed it in that radiologist's face.
Goes to show with enough love and support and prayers and Reiki healing energy and luck....miracles can sometimes happen!
