from all the suggestions given (lifting one box temporarily, changing litter, changing boxes, etc.), other than putting the pee pad down?
I understand your need to vent and that with everything else you may have going on in your life, this is one of those "straw that broke the camel's back" moments. This problem probably has a very simple fix, it's just a matter of finding the cause and the solution.
