go to a pharmacy and look at their wierd dental tools. They should have some kind of tooth scraping device. We use a metal thing our vet gave us.
the gums will bleed some, that is normal, so don't panic. irritated gums bleed easily, but they also stop bleeding fairly quickly too.
mom does sometimes cut herself on the cat's teeth. just keep some peroxide at hand.
