Also useful for balancing intestinal health. Most often probiotics are used for diarrhea (as far as I know).
The digestive enzymes brandypup and I are talking about are useful when a lot of food is passing through the animal's system without being fully utilized (often detectable by noticing that there is a lot of stool being produced). Adding a digestive enzyme will help the animal break down and use food more efficiently. The evidence becomes apparent when stool volume decreases.
My dog is almost 14 years old, and it's quite common for the digestive system to become less efficient as the animal becomes older. He was putting out so much poop - along with losing weight - that I was beginning to wonder if his body was utilizing much of the food he was eating at all.
Since adding the digestive enzymes (initally Prozyme, but now Syner-G) not only has his stool volume decreased, but he started putting on weight again. To the point where I had to actually DECREASE his meal sizes a bit to keep him at an optimum weight!
Glory is not an old cat, but she did seem to be putting out a lot of stool. So I started giving her some of the Syner-G and her stool volumes have also decreased.
