It all started one month after I received a cat tree that I had ordered from an individual whose ad I saw in CAT FANCY magazine. The other 3 cats did not experience any problems but I have always suspected something about that cat tree triggered her problems. I wonder if the formaldehyde in the newer carpet could trigger breathing problems in some cats? Although in your case the formaldehyde would have long since evaporated I would think. Maybe some chemical preservative used on the wood? I do agree there is something going on with that cat condo of yours...but what? Could it have gotten some chemical on it during storage? Dust? I would try wiping it down with a damp cloth. Rub as hard as you dare and see if that helps. If it is really dusty I would vacuum it first and then wipe the carpet fibers. Could there be mold in the carpetting?
