Being that most of this stuff is made in China anyway and I am willing to bet what customer support there is will be out sourced.
Shame they are nice condos. I saved a lot up to get them for the porch. But I would rather loose a bit than spend a fortune because they caused a problem.

Did you order them online or get them from a store? thinking maybe if you got them from a store you coudl talk to them about what happened???

Mike just get rid of them, don't even donate them just toss em. It could be anything from the glue, wood, chemicals or small airborne fibers just not worth a risk. I don't think it's overzealous at all.
You can always make your own, we do, pick out the wood, use a safe glue (can use a staple gun on the bottom anyway) and pick out the remnant carpet - these days there are a lot of safer carpets out there, even wool ones that have no chemicals and if you check enough carpet stores you can find all the remnants you want, cheap.

The other 3 cats did not experience any problems but I have always suspected something about that cat tree triggered her problems. I wonder if the formaldehyde in the newer carpet could trigger breathing problems in some cats? Although in your case the formaldehyde would have long since evaporated I would think. Maybe some chemical preservative used on the wood? I do agree there is something going on with that cat condo of yours...but what? Could it have gotten some chemical on it during storage? Dust? I would try wiping it down with a damp cloth. Rub as hard as you dare and see if that helps. If it is really dusty I would vacuum it first and then wipe the carpet fibers. Could there be mold in the carpetting? - Hugs Tiki, and I think we are taking the safe route here. msg

As for Buddy's incident.
They did stink when they came out of the box. After the incident with Buddy I wiped them down for two hours and vacuumed them many times. I used a brush on them to. Well, after that Buddy sniffed them and I thought he was going to go into another fit. But he was already on Pred and Zith so I think his system was in over drive so all he did was sneeze a few times.
After that I decided he was to sensitive and they needed to go. Well, a few days later after I gave them to my neighbor they had their furkid get sick with the same symptoms. After I had spent the whole day cleaning them.
Nope, they are getting tossed out.

I have a kitty with asthma, I am always worrying about things like this and I'm glad we opted to make our own and am going to stick to that plan, I have been tempted by some of the larger ones but never bought one. It could have been any of the things you listed or something else, it's would be so hard to know. A lot of these cat items are being made in China/overseas too, it's scary and now I wonder how many other kitties are getting sick from these sort of things.
