Not good news on Fuzzy...msg

I took him in yesterday, they checked him and took blood. For a time, I had a glimpse of hope, as they vet thought that maybe it wasn't the kidneys causing his situation, but maybe his thyroid instead as it was very enlarged. We were both happy...but that feeling got dashed today when the blood results came back. |
His thyroid showed ok, and all other organs ok too. But his creatine was very high, his bun was very high and he was getting anemic. Weirdly his potassium was ok, that changes when you have kidney failure. He had a high white count, but we knew we were treating a bladder infection.
All Fuzzy does is lay, he's comfortable, he wants to eat all the time, and does eat a lot by syringe...willingly (not force fed). But he's so weak, and he crashed Sunday night.
I asked if there was anything we can do, we can give him iv drip to rid the toxins that would be the best bet, but only buy a little more time. Subq's may help, but his kidneys are really not functioning so she didn't think that would really do too much.
I have to help him to the litter box, he can't walk well. I think I may be making that decision. The only thing that keeps me from that is that he was so fine just days ago. And then the crash. And then he eats and has the will. and his potassium and other organ functions are good. But I don't want to let him linger if things aren't going to improve his life.
If he'd stop eating, I'd know. But he eats 400+ cc by syringe daily for me and willingly.
I have to decide. So hard.
