I am so sorry that you are going to have to go through this. I lost my husband 3 years ago after going through a 7 year decline with him. Yet still I hit the proverbial wall when he passed very fast and sudden. I say sudden because he was watching tv and was having a great night. He was diabetic and said he was tired so we went to bed and boom he had a massive stroke.
You will hit a wall also but will find the way to grieve along with the kids. I let our 9 year old son see me grieve and cry. We cried together and did our best to allow each other some space. He slept in the living room with me since I could not sleep in our bed for 6 months. I would literally get sick thinking about getting in the bed.
Unfortunately, you will survive but I am not going to kid you it will take a good 3 years to get through it all. You will need to hold onto whatever you can. Plan your holidays and special days to get through them. I found having a plan was helpful. I am here if I can help you by listening
