Today my eyes played tricks on me
I thought I saw you outside, fishing
The sun was out, and I swear there you were
Casting your line, looking like you hadn't a care
I remember how much you used to love fishing
Maybe I'm just thinking about what you could be doing
Up in Heaven, where I know you are free
Are you still thinking of me?
The fisherman by the pond outside
Was bald and stout but standing with pride
Just as if it were you out there
I squinted to see but you couldn't possibly be here
I suppose my mind was going ballistic
As the tears rolled down my cheeks once I noticed
That fisherman, who could have been your twin
Was not you, but he did show me a grin
He was truly enjoying his time fishing
Just as you would have been doing
I wish we had had more time
So you could have taught me to cast a line
But alas, I guess I'll have to practice alone
Now that you get to fish in Heaven all day long
I truly wish it had been you here on Earth
But, I'll have to remember you are forever in my heart
