Dear Debbie,
You asked "How do people through this?". The only answer is because we have to. There is no other alternative. Accept that.
You eldest child is 23. I'm just a year elder than him, and I've lost my mother and two brothers. My elder brother died in the Mumbai terrorist attack, on 26/11. I still grieve for my loss, but the only thing that has helped me is the realisation that death is the end of life, but not the end of relationship. I wish things were different. We all do... But the sooner we learn to accept the loss, the sooner we shall realise that you cannot question the Lord's will. Birth and death are a part and parcel of life. "Dust thou art, and to dust you'll return"...
Nobody can fill the void which they leave behind... But then Life can be summed up in three words ..."It goes on".
Kind regards
