My brother too is bipolar. He's 36 years old and has always refused treatment and medication of any sort. This makes it very difficult. My brother has made those same threats. The only advice I can give to you is to constantly remind your son how much you love him and how much he is appreciated. Especially when his bad side comes out. It hurts to see family go through times like that, but it has seemed to have kept my brother going. I hope all goes well.
