Posted by What's happening? on 30/5/2007, 5:14 pm, in reply to "Re: AIS" I stand by my quote that facts only tell part of the story as there can be a whole heap of circumstances why numbers might have been up or down in certain programs (not just the AIS). But once again that is not my point! I was referring to this group of girls and asking what is happening to them. I feel concerned about the following: Injuries, retirements are normal part of gymnastics but it is the number around the same time that got me asking questions. And I haven't "bashed" anyone. I am just expressing my concern. Sorry if that doesn't fit into your facts and figures. --Previous Message--

I had to laugh when I saw all your figures. You have really done your homework haven't you?
Hollie - chronic injuries
Victoria - returning from most of last year with injuries
Claire Xian - lots of injuries
Monique Blount - quit, returned, not ready to compete
Monique Cowan - not sure, is she returning from injury
Casey - quit
Hayley Wright - injured, left AIS
Others??
: "Facts only tell part of the story and
: you have completely missed the point I was
: making."
:
: Facts are the only story and the only way
: you can judge these coaches on what is
: delivered regarding the number of girls on
: the Australian team and what international
: results they achieved. Ju Ping was great,
: however, the new coach has only been there 2
: years and the results are even better if you
: look at the last 2 quads : eg
: JU Ping
: 2000 1 AIS athlete ( 16% of the team of 6)
: 2003 1 AIS athlete ( 16% of the team of 6)
: 2004 1 AIS athele ( 16% of the team of 6)
:
: New Coach
: 2005 worlds 1 AIS ( 33% of the team of 3)
: 2006 worlds 2 AIS ( 33% of the team of 6)
:
: So if your arguement is that all these girls
: with heaps of potential aren't reaching
: expectations you must be really upset with
: Ju Pings performance. Or do you really want
: to just bash the AIS and its staff because
: its a popular hobby of many people on the
: board?

: Facts only tell part of the story and you

: completely missed the point I was making.
:
: Melody (and the other girls) was already
: talented before this coach came along so I
: don't agree that she has
: "improved" due to him. She
: certainly has displayed enormous courage and
: determination to come back from her injuries
: (as I have already acknowledged). I can't
: really comment about Melanie as I don't know
: what she was like beforehand.
:
: My point is that there was a group of
: talented girls with enormous potential who
: haven't performed to the expectation that
: many people had of them.
:
: I am in no way blaming the girls but the
: number of girls who have quit or been
: injured since Ju Ping has left does raise
: some questions.
:
: The fact that Hollie requires injury
: maintenance is cause for concern.
:
: The AIS has the benefit from a whole range
: of support services so why all the problems.
:
: The other point is what about the future of
: the AIS even for the next quad as they have
: so few girls coming up.

: The AIS is performing well. Melanie Jones
: and
: Melody have improved a lot under the new
: head coach. Hollie is under injury
: maintainance which is managed by Peggy. For
: them to have 3 out of 12 girls in the Worlds
: squad and probably 2 out 6 in the team is a
: much better result than in previous years
: where for example the last 2 olympics they
: have only had 1 out 6 selected.

: There has been quite a few (negative)
: comments
: about the AIS program and it's gymnasts over
: the past few weeks.
:
: It got me thinking about what is happening
: there. I have been a fan of the AIS style of
: gymnastics over the years and was excited at
: the prospects of Monique, Hollie, Melody,
: Victoria, Casey and others (I can't remember
: now!)coming through.
:
: They have certainly had their share of
: injuries and retirements but they have not
: lived up to expectation.(Although I think
: Hollie is doing brilliantly on beam and
: Melody has made a remarkable comeback).Is
: this due to the program, the new head coach
: or just bad luck?
:
: Since Ju Ping has left it just doesn't seem
: to have the same standard. No-one seems to
: comment on the head coach there - what do
: people think of him? The girls seem to still
: do well on beam but that is still coached by
: the Chinese coach.
:
: I also noticed on GA website Team Future
: girls at the Institutes and the AIS only
: have a handful of girls coming through
: whereas WAIS, VIS and QAS have a huge pool
: of girls. Is the program being phased out
: and the AIS will only be used for camps?
:
: Sorry my thoughts are a bit random but does
: anyone have any ideas on what they think is
: happening?
