Stringers make the board stiffer, more durable and make the core stronger but are usually only working in the middle of the board from where the stringer starts and where it ends. Stringers give the board a good snap back flex. If you choose caging layers, I would get top and bottom because with only 1 layer caging.... heat damage to the board may cause the board to develop negative rocker if you have only bottom caging layer. And top layer caging layer could get too much positive rocker. This happens usually when the board gets hot and cools off after a lot of use. I would suggest 2 stringers. no caging. Thats what I ride.
Caging layer makes the board stiff, but still keeps the liveliness of full range flex characteristics of no stringer. The strengthening from caging layer is throughout the entire plane surface area of the top and bottom. ![]()
