Well this may not help much but it's what I have written for the essquibo section of this site (not yet online)
The Essequibo is a plateau river which is not tidal, and is a seperate river from the rest of the Amazon complex. It runs very close to the equator and the main river has temperature of 27-30°C .
The main channels waters are clear and swiftly flowing, although sometimes stained a light brown colour. The bottom of the river is sandy, and shallow sand banks occur. The banks of the river are either clay or stone where swamp plants grow.
In some of the tributaries narrow rock cliffs are found in the middle of the stream, which are covered in green algae and are home to sucker-mouth catfish.
The jungle streams of the area are shaded and rich in plant matter, and the temperatures are lower than in the other parts.
