Thanks Cajun I'm glad to have read your thoughts. I would suggest that there isn't any ground now where a lone fan can seem like one of the gang. But in the days of the terraces you could stand "with" the crowd of like minded? singers and put a bit of passion in your support, enjoy the crack/banter associate or disassociate yourself with the comments and generally feel after the match to have belonged- even more so if the side had won and we'd outsung the opposition. I remember one time being given a seat in the Bob Lord stand and wishing I was up at the centre back of the Longside where the noise and atmosphere was. So the remedy? Well for a start something has to be done about giving the cricket field back to the fans - preferably standing fans when they wish to, without the interference of stewards....they never seem to be bothered about away fans who stand up right at the back? some radical thinking has to be done about the whole entertainment package which could generate some buzz. Yes the team need to be playing well, but the fans can also boost the team with the right vocal support- no wonder being an away fan is so much more reminiscent of the old atmosphere as you are with a group- even though a small number- of like minded folk. Being involved not just entertained is the secret to true football enjoyment.
