well the summer soccer wilderness that is the close season is nearly over, although this year the drought has been tempered with the oasis of the euro championships, leaving us with just seven days to the start of the new season.
bright new dawn? new beginnings?
i hope so, although personally i am fearful of the size (or lack of) of our squad.
sure, the players that have been brought in are quality and reflect the ambition of steve cotterill, but there's absolutely no margin for contingency, i.e. loss of form, or worse still injury.
i'm not sure as to the ability of youngsters o'neill, pilkington and scott, although i sincerely hope i have those words rammed down my throat over and over again in the very near future.
the inclusion of these lads onto the team-sheet just seems to cause me more consternation.
i would however, like to see more of pugh and trotman, these two have impressed me on the brief occasions i've seen them.
i'm sure the manager is mindful of our squad limitations however, and will use the loan market to his best advantage on his return, at least, that's what i'm hoping.
looking forward to an interesting season.
UTC.
