I reached the top 50 a couple of decades ago from Columbia/Jeff City. I don't know how they shape up in market size anymore, but I'm sure they compare with Joplin. (...since that appears to be your point of reference.)
My point is...being in the top 50 gives you no more job security than being in market 200. Probably less so. The pay is better. You'll be fired much more frequently. The layoffs will continue, TFN.
Your experience, talent, or number of listeners you bring into the station are irrelevent when the bean counter in charge says you're the salary that has to go. Good luck.
