we slowly worked our selves up from 3% to 6% to 7%. i pushed his doctors into trying this because he never coughed even though his lungs were chuck full of mucous. they warned and cautioned me in doing this but i kept being persistant.my younger boy had serious lung issues, he even developed bronchiactisis. he had the bronchiactisis when he started this 2 years ago. he has absolutely no problems with inhaling the 7%saline with gsh, if he is mucousy he does cough and that is what we wanted. we also had a tough time figuring out a way for us to use the saline solution at home. his doctors ended up giving us a prescription for it. we found only 1 pharmacy that would actually compound this for us, (not enough money in it for them) at 1st they filled up small sealed 4ml bottles, the kind where you stick a needle in on top. we had to pay for it and the compounding cost more then the solution itself. we went back to his doctor and told her and came up with the idea of a I.V bag. the one were you use a i.v needle to draw out the liquid. we have been doing this every day for the last 2/5 years. we even finally got the health care system to pay for it. we pick 2 bags up every 1.5 weeks and they mix and compound upon ordering, so it's fresh....we find this waaaaays easier then boiling water 3 times a day. my boys have always been on the recommended dosages for gsh (30mg/lb/day) oral and inhaled. they get 6ml saline and 2 casules of gsh per dose.......
