Some of you may using Zithromax M, W, F and others may have chosen not to use it. We were using for several years and then read that it can cause worse bugs, other than PA, to grow so we stopped. However, after talking with our doc we started our daughter back on it. Here's why...and I will not be able to explain as detailed or scientific as our doctor, but I will give it a try. First of all, in the studies done, it did not show resistence or any other stronger germs growing in PA's place. Secondly, and to me, the most important is that many of the bacteria that grow in the CF lung can not penetrate the walls of the lung and Zithromax has shown to "poke tiny holes" into the walls of the lungs and airways, allowing other antibiotics to get into the small airways and kill bacteria that otherwise might not ever get in there. Hope this helps.
