Hi Porkchop,
Sorrry this wont be a long mesage tonight as I am really tired this evening, but I wanted to answer with my opinion. Let me state again that this is only for and from me. I hear many gals on this site that drink lots of diet sodas and it doesn't seem to effect their personal progress and in somecazses truly seems to help them out. However for me, it was a huge hinderence.
I started seeing a Naturalist PHD for some other health issues a month ago, just before starting Cambridge again. She suggested that I give up Diet pop as well as Crystal Light and any other diet beverage that has Artificial Sweetners in them of any kind. I will tell you it was hard to do, but I am now sweetner and caffeine free for 9 days and it has made a HUGE say again HIGE difference in my diet this time. I have tried Cambridge about 4 different times in the past 6 months and just couldn't stick to it. I would drink diet pop between meals and then want to snack on a sweet or carb food.
My doctor said it was the artifical sweetner triggering my want for real sweets and carbs. Since I gave it all up. It has been SO SO SO much easier for me. I made my son some fresh hot out of the oven choco chip cookies 4 days ago and haven't even had the urge to nibble them. NO KIDDING. I am so serious about this.
One day, about 4 days in with no pop I had a Coke Zero that was in my fridge staring at me, 2 hours later I wanted a choco chip granola bar from my kids lunch, I had such a difficult time staying out of the fridge that night.
The next day I brought out my college size dorm fridge and plugged it in the garage. I had my kids take all of the diet sodas out of the house and put them in the gargage for when guests come over. I didn't want them starring at me in the house anymore.
I also put all of my Crystal Light packages away. Now I onloy drink plain water and Tonic water. I will not lie to you. It has taken me time to adjust to the tonic water, but if you are interested there are some that are better than others, I can tell you later. I have developed my taste buds for them. I like the bubbles. But I never had a side effect from drinking it like I did my regular diet soda.
Now, that isn't an article, or research based, it is my one and only personal experience. Others may find it different for them. But if you are finding it difficult not to cheat on this diet, I urge you to try giving up ALL yes ALL artificial sweetners for a week and see how much easier sticking to Cambridge really is.
Hope that helps,
Dragonfly
