THERE IS A DIFFERENCE BETWEEN INTEREST AND COMMITMENT.
When you are interested in doing something, You do it only when it’s convenient.
When you are committed to something, you accept no excuses from yourself, only results!
WHY WE LOSE COMMITMENT
Negative Thoughts
Negative thoughts are the statements you tell yourself about your overweight condition and your ability to lose weight.
Some examples are: telling yourself that you were meant to be fat so you might as well eat all you want, telling yourself that now is not a good time for you to lose weight because your anniversary is next week, telling yourself that you can’t diet now because you are too stressed out at work, telling yourself that you never will be able to lose weight so why try, telling yourself that you can’t diet now because, because, because-------
High Risk Activities
High risk activities are the activities that we knowingly or unknowingly allow ourselves to be drawn into where commitment can be easily undermined. Examples: We accept a luncheon invitation that we know will cause us to not stay on our diet. We go to a party and know we will really over eat because the food is there and we are suppose to be having fun.
Sabotage
Sabotage is the effect that others have on your ability to maintain your commitment. It is sad but true, that some people sometimes even your loved ones, do not want you to lose weight. Food is often used to show love and care or to make one “feel better” Valentine Candy is one example of using food to show love.
It is easy to blame others for a failure of your commitment, but in the end it is your responsibility. How you look, how you feel and what you eat is entirely up to you.
WHAT ARE THE ANSWERS?
Tell yourself over and over again each day. “I choose to lose weight today”, I deserve to lose weight today”, “I will lose weight today”.
For the next two weeks. Don’t accept invitations to High Risk Activities and after that only accept the ones that are the most important to you.
Surround yourself with people that make you feel good and who will support and encourage you weight loss.
