We are the club that took an active role in seeking full recognition for the Neapolitan Mastiff in Canada. The Neapolitan Mastiff will be eligable to enter the CKC show ring March 2006.
Posted by IMPORTANT on November 27, 2006, 2:00 pm Try to imagine it if you will.... attending the Caledon Kennel Club Shows & Trial this past weekend, enjoying some good friends, good dogs and good times. Suddenly a rumour of hideous proportions spreads it's way through the show site. The big wigs and administrative management of the Canadian Kennel Club have once again managed to display what, in my humble opinion, is total incompetence and lack of regard for how their decisions, actions and, in many cases, inaction affects the Membership as a whole across, in this case, the very fabric of our dog world. A few salient points as follows: 1.) The largest "dog organization" outside of North America - FCI - has decided that Canadian Dogs and their Pedigrees will no longer be recognized in countries where FCI is the local authority having jurisdiction having registration powers. 2.) The largest "dog organization" outside of North America - FCI - has decided that Canadian Judges will no longer have Judging Qualifications recognized by FCI Organizations around the world. Why were these two decisions made by FCI? Good question and the apparent answer should "blow your mind" and it did mine and many others at the Caledon Shows. Apparently a senior official with FCI has been trying repeatedly for the past two years to get some sort of response or clarification from the CKC Chief Executive Officer as to why some pedigrees of, so I am told, German dogs (sorry, don't know what breed) were declined for recognition by the CKC. It is reported that instead of engaging the FCI official in a constructive dialogue on the matter as to why the pedigrees would not be recognized, our highly paid Administrative Staff at CKC, including the CEO, chose to simply ignore the emails, letters and what not from the FCI officials. It is reported that, as a result of this inaction by CKC Staff, FCI has now made the two decisions above. How do these decisions by FCI affect us? Simple really. If you are a breeder, or even that matter an owner of a dog that you are planning on exporting overseas to a country where FCI is the registering body, you dog is no longer registerable with FCI. It will simply become a pet that is not showable or breedable with it's progeny incapable of being registered in the country of their birth. Quite the conundrum for some of us who may have breeders overseas interested in Stud Services out of our dogs or with puppy reservations for overseas buyers. As well, if you are CKC Licensed Judge, you will no longer be able to judge in FCI Countries at FCI Events. Unless this matter is resolved, why therefore would we or even should the CKC allow the significant number of 2007 Event that already have FCI Licensed Overseas Judges Approved move forward without replacing the FCI judges on the panel. Reciprocity of judges qualification is what makes it possible for our Judges to go there and there judges to come here. Some may think I am speaking punitively to want to remove FCI Judges from upcoming CKC Events, but the fact is that FCI is being punitive against ALL CKC Members and Breeders in their first decision and if our Judges aren't "good enough" for their events, why should we accept theirs for here? CONTACT YOUR CKC DIRECTOR TODAY about this matter. Urge them to take immediate action now, prior to the January 2007 implementation of these decisions. There is a CKC BOD MEETING on December 9th/06. Attend the meeting. Sit in the visitors gallery and voice your concerns on these matters. The Canadian Kennel Club is a membership owned organization. Maybe it's time for the dog to wag the tail again, instead of the tail wagging the dog which seems to be what is happening here. If you don't stand up now and voice your concerns and attend the meeting, you will have no excuse to whine and b###h when it's too late. Directors who are on these lists .....be proactive for your constituents... get this information out rather than having us hear it as a rumor at a dog show. Maybe it's time for ANOTHER change in the administrative head at the CKC Office. Indeed, perhaps that and a formal apology from CKC for ignoring their requests maybe what will be necessary to correct and reverse these decisions. Allan Marsh
