Thanks for being civil and not posting with all caps.

Different process, Tom, when driving in...and boy was I confused at the border

Hi Tom, thanks for a good stab. What is the same is that you fill out the FMT at the border when driving in, it is stamped with a stamp that says "Pay this fee at a bank before leaving" and there is a list of banks where you are to pay. Sorry to say, though, that it doesn't have a specific fee on it anyplace, just boxes where "someone" is supposed to write in an amount depending on the type of FMT you are coming in on - Vacation or Business.

I didn't see the stamp originally at the border, and never having driven in before, asked the fellow, who gave me the instructions about paying at a bank.

So, therein lies the difference. By air, it is included in the cost of the ticket; by car, you pay for it yourself at a bank - however our local tellers won't take the money until the fee is filled in by "someone". That someone could be me if I knew how many pesos to fill in.

But, all in all, I think that I will do as the other poster suggests and try to pay it at the airport. It does make sense that they would take the money there.

Just a quick trip back to your hometown, Tom, for meetings and conferences. Then back to pack up for the long trip to Fairbanks. We've decided to Ferry back through the Inside Passage - a new experience for us.
