The process of registering Los Amigos has been started. Due to the resignation of Nora Rodriquez as Mexican Secretary-Treasurer and Director, Rafael Alvarez has accepted the offered position of Director, while the LADLP Board is still seeking a replacement for the office of Mexican Secretary-Treasurer.
It was reported that Governor Ney has sent two engineers from CEA and that Tepic will take over the control of our plant from SIAPA, the La Penita water board. It is expected that in about two weeks the plant will be running at almost full capacity. The engineers will have a discussion with staff re-maintenance and monitoring. The federal Protection agency stopped the estuary from being opened. Jeff Bitkoff received a big thanks for his hard work. A request was made to place signs at the estuary to warn all of this health hazard. An appointment is being made very soon for Los Amigos, the Guayabitos Homeowners Association and the Fishermen's Association to meet with Governor Ney regarding waste water treatment.
Betty de Carrillo will be talking to the local delegate this week regarding painting and clean-up. She is also drafting a letter re: derelict autos to transit authorities at the state level with a copy to Senor Marconi and Governor Ney and the local delegate. The government has hired men to transfer remains from the old cemetery to the new one.
The recycling program is scheduled to start on April 5th. Verne Porter has volunteered to pick up the bags from the schools for one year. It is hoped that Conalep will provide student volunteers to help. A key issue will be how to reward the participating students and schools. Discussions are underway to expand the program to Los Ayala.
Our bank account balance is now $170,338.10 pesos. Thomas Bartlett has shown an interest in offering his Hacienda for a second annual fundraising event. Furthermore, a Mexican Fiesta fundraiser for Los Amigos is planned for April. The entrance fee will be nominal to enable the International group and the Mexican community to interact with each other. Betty de Carrillo is the main organizer and is seeking help.
Brochures & ID badges, for our members to wear to identify themselves to residents and tourists at our events, have been printed, thanks to the generosity of the Saskatchewan Condo Group.
