We've got parents in Phoenix so we generally cross at Nogales. There's no problem there since they have the Mariposa bypass which totally avoids Nogales, Mexico. Much more stressful traversing Las Vegas and Phoenix on the freeways. We spend our first night from Phoenix at San Carlos, Navajoa or somewhere in between.
