Miles, there has been no flooding YET. The problem is a combination of many things that happen to create it. First the Canal that runs along the Los Ayala Road cannot hold the volume of water the county has routed to it and the elevation levels have to be adjusted to allow the water to flow faster to the ocean. Because it is the lowest area and water does not flow uphill, it relys on the grey water lines to take the excess water. This does and will not work as the pumps do not work and the grey water lines are collapsed in many sections to drain it to the ocean. With the building that has been allowed and the added volume of displacement and lack of proper infastructure this problem is now going to take a great deal of money to fix. The problem has been building for the last 15-18 years without anything being done to prevent the flooding and has reached a urgent level now. The County this week, as it has for the last 15 years, has said they dont have the money to do it and the State says it is not their problem. At this point the residents and businesses have no alternatives, but to do what every place else does and either put sand bags to protect your home or build temporary cement walls around the entrances and buy a water pump. This year we are expecting a higher level of flood waters and no solution in site. The town right now is fighting against a brick wall to fix this situation so buyer beware.
