I went to Tequila two years ago without a hotel recommendation. I stumbled upon the Hotel Dulce Maria. I loved it. Now, checking the internet, I see that it is highly regarded by others too.
When this place was refinished, there was little expense spared. The new doors are heavy wood, nicely carved, with a stylized agave plant in the center. The theme is carried in the matching furniture, both in the rooms and in the small center court: very well done and inexpensive.
There are similar places around La Plaza. They are older structures, built long before a plan for parking was needed. I think probably none have on-premises parking but many share a large, secure lot just a few blocks away.
Wifi was weak in my room but fine in the court.
