Bancomer Debit Cards, and others, have an expiry date. I was not aware of this as I have had my same Canadian bank debit card for years. However, I recently went to get money for a friend using his Bancomer debit card and it was "eaten" at the ATM in the bank. As soon as it happened I went into the bank only to be told that his card had expired. I then checked my own card and sure enough, if I use my card after May 2010 it too will be eaten. All debit cards now need to be renewed the same as credit cards. My bank in Canada also just replaced my old Debit Card, the one I have had for years, with one that now has not only an "expiry date" but also a "smart chip." Check the expiry date on your card and have it replaced to avoid having it "eaten" when you least expect it. Also, don't count on the bank to advise you that your card is about to expire. After all, this is Mexico.
