I enjoyed the issue a great deal. The one complaint I have is also the older look of the characters. I for one LOVE both the YA and the Runaways, so I have a high standard, but the writing was ok, and the art was, IMHO, slightly better. I DID feel put off by their mature, older appearances, but the characters seemed accurate to me, for the most part, and it makes me want to see more of the Runaways and YA (wanting more of them is something I never thought could be.) I eagerly look forward to issue 2. Although a slight letdown, all in all, it was an ok issue, and was at the very least, quite entertaining.

: I was very disappointed in the art. Why do
: they all look like adults, with the
: exception of Molly? Everyone was
: very.."stringy?" The style is such
: a great departure from either the Runaways
: or YA books. I am surprised he was chosen to
: be the artist. The other thing that really
: bugged me was Xavin. I know we haven't seen
: much of this character to really get an
: accurate feel. It just seemed like Xavin was
: taken to the extreme. He seemed to have a
: prejudice against everyone. Just when it was
: getting good, the issue ended.
:
: On the positive side, it was great to see
: Victor step up and really take some extreme
: action. I also enjoyed the interaction
: between Molly and Chase, it successfully
: mirrors what is happening in the Runaways
: proper book. The last page definitely gave
: me hope for the next 3 issues.

: So Young Avengers & Runaways #1 is out
: and
: I'm as underwhelmed as usual with part one
: of a crossover. I guess I'm spoiled by
: Cheung's artwork but Caselli makes the book
: look more like Runaways than YA. I will
: admit he has a flair for storytelling. The
: art alone would have let you follow the
: story and I almost wish it had been alone.
: See, that's why I hate issue one of
: crossovers. This one is very well done but
: the writer of these things has to feature
: everyone and have them say or do something
: that establishes that yes, this is them.
: That means issue one never amounts to much.
: I'm looking forward to issue two and of the
: eighteen books I bought today I rank this
: number two (Below Blue Beetle and above New
: Avengers). Heck, it even beat out two
: Brubaker titles.
