Posted by James Hunter on May 22, 2007, 5:29 pm, in reply to "Re: Are you kidding me?!?!?! (SPOILERS)" Also, if you want to get technical, nobody FORCED Cloud 9 to take part in the battle, all that was said was that she had the best target on the range, no one said she had to fight. I agree that Stamford alone wasn';t a big deal, it was simply the straw that broke the camel's back. Professor X is a LOT of things, but if you look at his history the one thing he's not is competant. If he were the original new X-Men (Nightcrawler, Storm, Wolverine etc) wouldn't have been necessary. Fury could have been trusted, but there's always corruption in S.H.I.E.L.D and Tony is a logical choice to stomp it out. Cheers. James. --Previous Message--

I don't follow your logic, mutnats haven't been exempt from the registration act, why should Firestar be the exception?
: Firestar is a moot point. Shes a mutant and
: mutants are exempt from that part of the act
: because it would be racist forcing someone
: to do something over their race. Altohugh
: I'm sure that wont be far behind. However if
: they had a choice why was cloud 9 fighting
: bad guys with the other heroes? Also I
: honestly dont think stamford was that big of
: a deal.
:
: Also I really do think the registration went
: as bad as it did because the two people in
: marvel who could have pulled it off
: compitently Prof. X and Nick Fury were not
: there. Because think about what two living
: figures in marvel comand more respect then
: those two?

: One key point which you don't saeem to quite
: grasp is that people *do* have a choice,
: yes, they have to register but they don't
: HAVE to be active heroes, if that were the
: case Firestar would not have been allowed to
: simply walk away from her superhero life in
: Frontline #2.
:
: Yes, you have to be trained if you want to
: USE your powers (which is fair enough) but
: if you have them, but have no intention of
: using them all you have to do is register
: (to continue my example, Firestar was de
: facto registered as one of the 198 on the
: O.N.E files)
:
: Cheers.
:
: James.

: The thing is for all people with powers the
: law makes it so they have no choice but to
: register and serve as weapons for the
: government until they are depowered or
: killed. EVEN MUTANTS. But no one will
: enforce that because anyone who tries to
: tell the X-men what to do by force wont be
: leaving in one piece. The thing is a person
: with powers cant just say they dont want to
: be a hero and go on with their lives.
: Jessica Jones tried that and they still
: tried to make her register. The problem with
: the law is that it takes away choice. Cloud
: 9 was never a threat and still isnt. However
: for some reason the government has decided
: to racially profile every powered person as
: a super hero. That is something thats wrong.
: For example what if Franklin Richards grows
: up and decides he wants to be a baseball
: player is the government gonna say sorry but
: you have powers so its off to latvaria for
: you! I'm Glad there are teams like the New
: avengers, New Warriors, Runaways, and the
: remaining YA who refuse to bend over and
: take it from president charles in charge.

: The whole founding fathers argument doesn't
: seem to fly here because Peter has
: representation. He could run for office,
: himself or start a protest campaign to have
: this recinded. But, no, he chooses to go
: against the American public, who wanted this
: so much so that they engaged the system and
: forced their representatives to enact this
: law.
:
: Also it isn't out of the ordinary to have
: Spidey cross ways with the law. He's spent
: most of his carreer being pursued by the NY
: city police department.
:
: Is Spidey a hero, yes. Is he following the
: law, no. Who decides which laws we are
: going to obey, the people and the
: government. If the government fails the
: people, then the people, at least in the
: Bush led America, they can change it and get
: him or anyone else elected out of office.
:
: This whole Captain America, Spider-Man being
: good argument is just not going to fly. If
: they don't like the law, then they change
: the law.
:
: Laying all the blame at Tony Stark's feet is
: a view that will not fly either. Sure you
: can blame an individual like Tony Stark or
: real world like President Bush, but it will
: never be a satisfactory answer to blame one
: person for difficult decisions. If we don't
: like the real world, then we get involved
: and change it, legally or if illegally, then
: we face the consequences. If in the comics,
: someone feels something is wrong, they go
: beat up the bad guys, but in this case the
: perceived bad guys are the American public
: who has suffered for the decisions of the so
: called heroes over and over again.

: I do but the thing is sending heroes after
: spidey who will hold back and wont try to
: KILL him is one thing. Sending HIS villains
: to get him who will do anything to KILL him
: is very different. However I can't wait till
: all the villains get free. Then lets see how
: smug the pro reg side is. (Insert evil laugh
: here) Also I really dont trust Gyrch at all
: he is an evil character. At least at the end
: of the day you know stark doesnt want to
: wipe all super powered people off the planet
: Bush and Gyrch do. Thats why I dont trust
: the SHRA
:
: --Previous Message--
: Yes, they fought back, but they were still
: breaking the law. We all have our opinions
: on whether the SHRA is right or wrong, but
: at the end of the day the anti-Regs are
: going against a federal law. That does not
: make them bad guys, but that doesn't make
: the people pursuing them bad guys either.
: And while i haven't read any of the
: THunderbolts issues or any issues relating
: to the Thunderbolts, I'd speculate that
: Hydro-Man, Boomerang and Shocker are among
: those under the nanotechnology that STark
: has people like the Green Goblin hooked up
: to. I hope what i said makes some sense. I
: understand where you're coming from though.
: --Previous Message--
: No what I'm saying is the founding fathers
: objected to taxation without representation
: and the tea tax along with many other laws.
: So they faught back. Which is what the new
: avengers are doing. Also its not heroes
: going after spidey their sending the
: initiative kids with villains!!!. People who
: want Spidey dead.
:
: --Previous Message--
: But it is the law and rather than protest it
: in court Spider-Man and the New Avengers
: have chosen to defy the law. That does make
: them criminals. Not liking a law doesn't
: maek you exempt from it. If it did,
: millions of pot smokers acros the country
: wouldn't have to worry about posession
: charges if pulled over at the wrong time.
