Wow, this book is good. Zeb Wells knows how to plot, how to lay out a story, and he is making each character sound like a grown up version of their original selves, as if he's got stories in his head of what they were doing between appearances. The art is just as good, someone I've never seen before named Zachary Baldus. This man is good and so right for the New Mutants in the tradition of Sienkivewix (I know that's badly misspelled but I figure if I can't possibly get it right I'll get it very wrong). Not that he's anything like that artist (he's got more of a Vertigo line feel to him) but Bill S was a giant breath of creative fabtasticness when the original volume needed it. I thought the art was just fine in the opening arc and Baldus is more than fine as a fill in or even as the new ongoing artist if that's the case. The story mostly moves along the stories of Dani and Shan with some portents from Warlock. I wish Dani had kept the power she gained in Utopia but this woman was trained by Xavier and SHIELD. She don't need no steenkin' powers...
