This book just gets better and better. Mister Wells is showing a depth I honestly didn't know he had. The two characters he showcased this issue, Doug and Ilyana, really popped under his pen. The slowed down issue let us get details about Doug's return and his perspective and anyone untouched by his rapprochement with Amara doesn't have a soul. Speaking of, Ilyana 2.0 has been the fly in the ointment since this title's debut and it's finally being addressed. Not how I would have liked it to have been but still pretty damn good.
And to top it all off, we get to see Emma Frost be bad ass and get villains who just might top Legion in terms of threat potential. The art was a treat too. I've never heard of Paul Davidson but he is further proof that this book does better with more of an indie style to the art rather than the standard Marvel look.
I know this book exists because of nostalgia and the fact they can't bring back New X-Men this soon without admitting its cancellation was a dumbass move but the stories are great so who cares?
