Hi Bruce, Registration is not needed for chess tournament web-site, photos, videos, results, pairings, reading of blog etc. Browse without registering. Chess game viewing is database and Internet bandwidth intensive, and we have thousands of registered users browsing the games and following live games. Monroi.com has by now hundreds of past tournaments and often several simultaneous tournaments live on the same web-site. Registration helps us to better secure servers and load balance the traffic. We can distribute, prioritize traffic. Registration requires 5 fields, it takes a minute to register. When chatting on-line, posting a comment in blog, or sending a private message, users need usernames for communication purposes – one reason for registration. Another – less obvious one is security of servers, traffic management and security of communications for traffic intensive or e-commerce applications. This is why you'll see sites with e-commerce (PayPal, eBay, Amazon) requiring registration, but also YouTube, Facebook, My Space, On-Line Gaming Sites etc.
