Here are two more important points in the never-ending magazine debate:
1) What does the CFC propose to do for its members who don't have online access, for whatever reason (lack of interest, computer illiteracy, cost of service, etc)!? I haven't heard this discussed yet.
2) Will it be possible for non-members to get access to the online magazine, if and when it appears!? And if so, why should anyone join the CFC!?
In recent times, the magazine has been the only tangible service offered to CFC members who, for whatever reason, are inactive as players. I am in this category; my last rated tournament, which I won, performing at about 2200, was in the spring of 2007. Right now I don't have the interest in playing chess competitively, but still want to be a CFC member, and want to keep up on Canadian chess news and developments. And I have paid for the magazines which I didn't get; how does the CFC propose to address that problem!?
