Hi JPR. Humour can be a tricky thing, especially when written. I trusted that the above statement was sufficiently absurd that it could only be taken as a joke. Daniel is a fine young man and I also admire his life choices. It was intended more as a gentle recognition that our addiction and passion for Chess can mess up our priorities. I've seen this happen too often with less than funny results for some young aspiring Players.
The definition below comes closer to what was intended than Keith's suggestion of sarcasm.
Irony - the way of speaking that shows you are joking or that you mean the opposite of what you say
