The Treasurer has unilaterally moved postings of mine from the public section of the CFC website to the private Governors read only section of the website. A new era of transparency has dawned in the Federation...

You have to have a careful think... if the postings were of use/interest to the membership in general, maybe you could consider posting them somewhere else... maybe even HERE.

However, how much do you want to escalate your disagreement with the treasurer? In my limited experience of balanced and reasonable behaviour, I've found that it's best to walk away from some fights.

I did not post anything confidential in the open section of the CFC website. They were over the issue of whether members should be allowed to read Governors deliberations on issue which are not confidential.

The issue very early in the mandate of this executive is the one of transparency. Given that the Treasurer is an administrator on the New Chesstalk, I wonder about the integrity of the posting system.

I don't want a fight; I want a transparent federation.

Hi Ken:

I saw your post on the New CFC Chess Forum ( I had early access during the testing period because I had donated to get it up and running ). I didn't realize it had been moved, but when I just checked, sure enough it is gone.

If Chris wanted the governors to discuss your suggestion that members be given " view only " status for the private governors' board, why didn't he just " copy " your post and then re-post it over there. Then it would have been both places. I'm sure members would have opinions on this issue - I'm certainly in favour. As you said somewhere ( it may have been that disappeared post ) , it would be no different than when members read governors' comments in the GL.

Concerns me if this is any deliberate attempt at censorship. Hopefully it is just an inadvertant error by Chris.

You as an executive member cannot unilaterally move posts. There was nothing that cannot be seen by the public. I want it debated in public not behind closed doors.

New CFC Chess Forum

Hi Peter:

I thought there was going to be an " official " announcement of the new CFC Chess Forum. I had been given early access to it during the testing period ( since I made a donation towards getting it up and running ), and was told it would be coming. But there is nothing yet under " news " nor is there a link on the side of the CFC website homepage.

But now that Ken has disclosed its existence, I guess CFC will now have to play catch-up.

I think it is great that CFC has once again got its own board up and running. It should be providing a place for CFC members, and the public, to discuss CFC matters. And anything else. That doesn't preclude posts here on ChessTalk as well, but the main thread on CFC issues should develop on the CFC Board. Also, unlike you, Peter, many governors will not post here. Maybe if members use the new board, we can convince governors to post there and dialogue with ordinary members ( while still posting on their own private governors' board ).

So go register on the new board. There are a few starting threads there of interest. Hopefully there will be many more as posters/viewers register.

Of course, Ms. Spears had the unfair disadvantage that she didn't write the songs herself, and she didn't know how to play any instruments. And she had to grow up in my parent's lands of Alabama/Mississippi/Georgia. Poor girl.

Mick Jagger, on the other hand, was a sleazebag who used the unfair advantage of writing his own music and keeping a beat, singing well, and playing guitar (if he absolutely had to).

Okay, where to begin. Firstly, I can't believe I paused a most enjoyable Santana tune to observe that Britney Spears abomination. Okay, where to venture... to...? That's a preposition. Something's not right here! To where to venture? #### it. Anyway, I don't understand the point of male singers. I mean, I listen to a lot of female singers: Nina Simone, Grace Slick, Sarah Slean, Ella Fitzgerald, Hilary Duff, etc. (Quick quiz: which of those listed is about one millionth as talented but infinity trillion times hotter than the others?!) But male singers? Why? It's like, "Grow some testicles and rap, you pussy." I think we can all agree that Jus Allah put it best: "Turn your ringers off / Keep your bullshit in singer lofts". Spot on, Jus Allah. Jus Allah is a genius. Before listening to his 2003 banger Divide and Conquer, I had no idea that the mentally inferior White cavemen were trying to brainwash and control me.

Seriously, though, male singers are excessively suspect.

A wise decision (going to bed). I registered at the CFC forum and then logged in twice. Each time I received a welcome message but when I went to the bulletin board I was told that I couldn't do anything (you can not post messages, etc.) because I wasn't logged in. Nothing personal against Chris M. but his bulleting board efforts all look the same (ugly) and feel the same (disfunctional).

Yes, the rumours are true!

The CFC has revived its public discussion board. It can be found at

http://www.chesscanada.info/forum/

The site has been up for a few days now. We decided to allow the Governors a test drive before announcing it to the public.

There is a private forum for Governors to discuss CFC business in a secure environment. I expect all governors to respect the confidentiality of the Governors forum.

Many thanks to Chris Mallon for administering the site.

We will add a link on the website shortly.

Just a thought, but maybe a Governor, any Governor, should have been informed about this board. In advance.

I do not appreciate being asked that if "I feel like I am entitled..." I should advise Mr. Mallon and maybe or maybe not I might get access. Talk about a gate keeper.

Finally, I think that the OCA President, the CFC Treasurer, the Administrator of the new Chesstalk and the Administrator of this new CFC discussion board should design the same layout for the Ottawa Chess Club Discussion Board. That way, nobody would know on which board they are posting

The more serious question is of course procedural. So far Governors would be informed by GL or an emergency letter to each individual asking for a vote. What role will this Governor Discussion Board have?

These are of course weighty questions, far more important than our cash flow position or our Financial Statements

Hi Peter,

The "incredibly impatient" comment was not directed at you. It was directed at a few individuals who were anxious to have our own CFC discussion board ASAP. After my own attempts at getting a discussion board going were unsuccessful, I was quite content to rely upon Governor discussion via group email. The only successful vehicle for Governor discussion to date.

My apologies if my recollection is wrong, but were not all the Governors informed of the new discussion board a week ago in a group email as it was being rushed into service ?

What role will this Governor Discussion Board have? - for now, discussion.

Yes, Governors received information about the discussion board by group email.

An email from the CFC Treasurer on August 12, Peter S. name is included in the distribution list.

Well, it seems David is ready for this to go public.

The website for the discussion board is www.chesscanada.info/forum

It uses similar software to what the new Chesstalk uses, so it should be familiar to most people by now.

I have to manually give private forum permissions to you as you register, so please allow some time for that to happen.

I notice that the CFC discussion board (now) has a different background colour than the same software that runs the new ChessTalk discussion board... not to mention the different banner at the top of course...
