Corsham extend unbeaten home run
By Ned Payne
Corsham Town 2, Radstock Town 1
CORSHAM Town edged past Radstock Town in Saturday's Toolstation League Premier Division match despite missing a host of first half chances.
Top scorer James Lye and new boy Tom Smith found the net and though Radstock pulled one back Mel Gingell's side held fast for the victory.
Lye got Corsham's first goal 10 minutes after half-time when he hit home a spectacular volley from 20 yards.
Five minutes later Smith got his second in two games when he struck from close range to give The Reds a 2-0 advantage.
Radstock pulled a goal back with 15 minutes to go when Corsham failed to clear.
The result means Gingell's team are unbeaten in nine league matches at The Southbank this season.
Top scorer James Lye now has 18 goals in all competitions with Simon Gray his closest challenger having found the net 13 times.
Gingell said his side should have wrapped up the game earlier.
He said: "We should have won easily but we made it hard for ourselves by not taking our chances in the first half.
"Second half we went 2-0 up but gave away a silly goal though this time I didn't think we were going to concede another one.
"It was 0-0 at half-time and we missed a few chances and it started to get to our players a bit. When they had the chance to shoot they were passing the ball.
"I said to them that we had to relax and entertain a little bit more.
"2-1 against anybody is quite decent but the way we've been conceding goals sometimes sets the alarm bells ringing."
Gingell said his team's win coupled with Frome Town's loss at Melksham Town had made it a good weekend for his side.
Gingell said: "It puts us right up there with games in hand on a couple of sides.
"If we won our games in hand we would be third which would be nice, but there's still a long time to go yet."
