Corsham keep pressure on leaders
Corsham Town 3, Bideford 2
CORSHAM Town continued to blaze a trail through the Toolstation League Premier Division as they beat 10-man Bideford at The Southbank.
With manager Mel Gingell watching from the stand as he started his 22-match touchline ban, The Reds produced a vintage second half display to seal a 3-2 victory.
Simon Gray, Jason Walsh and Craig Fullam ensured Corsham's unbeaten home record remained intact.
It took until first half stoppage time for the game to ignite, but it did so in spectacular style.
Bideford captain Ellis Laight ghosted in at the back post to finish a drilled cross from Leon Hapgood and seemingly send Bideford into the break ahead.
But marksman Gray levelled matters six minutes into injury time when reacted quickest after a Craig Fullam shot had smacked off the upright.
Corsham went in front for the first time after 53 minutes when a Kris Davis cross was nodded in off the post by Walsh.
Jamie Lyons wasted a gilt-edged chance to make it 3-1 when goalkeeper Mark Coombe saved his penalty mid-way through the half.
The Reds had a second penalty in the 84th minute when Tom Stocco felled Craig Fullam and Stocco was shown his second yellow card.
Fullam smashed home the spot kick himself to give Corsham a healthy lead.
It could have been 4-1 when Walsh hit the bar and Liam Fullam inexplicably shot wide from six yards, and Corsham had a scare late on when Hapgood got the visitors' second.
But The Reds held on to ensure their unbeaten home record remained.
Reds boss Mel Gingell said he was happy to keep the pressure on league leaders Truro City.
Gingell said: "I was glad to get a result because it still keeps us right up there.
"In the second half I thought we played some really good stuff. We had a few good chances and there was only one winner.
"It would have been unjust if we had dropped any points because for long periods we completely outplayed them."
The Corsham manager said he had not enjoyed watching his team from the stands.
Gingell said: "It wasn't very nice.
You're too far away and it makes it awkward."
