We’ll make Truro fight for title, vows Gingell
CORSHAM Town manager Mel Gingell is not prepared to hand over the Toolstation League Premier Division championship trophy to Truro City just yet.
Corsham won the title for the first time in their history last season, but within days manager Colin Bush and his backroom staff quit and that quickly led to an exodus of players from The Southbank.
The vastly experienced Gingell took over during the summer and had to rebuild a squad from scratch and on limited means.
When the season started most observers thought big-spending Truro would walk away with the championship, while Corsham's new look team would do well to escape relegation.
But Gingell's team have moved to within eight points of leaders Truro after their 2-0 midweek win at Radstock.
Tom Smith scored a first half penalty and Jason Walsh netted late on to make sure of the win.
Truro remain favourites for the title, but Gingell is determined to make a fight of it.
He said: "We're only five points behind Truro now and you never know.
"Everybody said they would walk it but we're still in there and they have still got to come to us.
"We won't be giving up the chase - it makes us more determined. We've just got to keep it going."
Gingell said his team had not been too troubled at Radstock.
Gingell said: "It was quite comfortable really. I don't think they had a shot all night - Nick Gingell didn't have a proper save to make.
"I don't think we played that well but a result is a result. Sometimes you have to grind them out."
