Gingell hails his Corsham record breakers
CORSHAM Town have set a new all-time club record after winning their two Toolstation League Premier Division games against relegation battlers Bishop Sutton and Street this week.
The Reds' unbeaten league run now stands at 19 games, surpassing the 17-game run set by last season's league championship-winning side.
Corsham have not lost in the league since mid-October and have only been defeated in the competition twice all season.
But Mel Gingell's side left it late to beat bottom side Bishop Sutton 2-1 at Lakeview on Saturday.
James Lye got the opener as Corsham took control in the early stages of the game.
Sutton had a man dismissed for violent conduct shortly after as the match swung in Corsham's favour.
Ten minutes from the end Lye had the chance to get his second and wrap the game up but he missed from the penalty spot.
It looked like Corsham would be made to pay for the spot kick miss when Sutton equalised three minutes into stoppage time.
A minute later Ross Lye crossed for substitute Tom Smith and he hit home to give The Reds a last-gasp victory.
It was another sweet win against Sutton for Corsham who narrowly beat the strugglers 4-3 earlier in the season.
Gingell said: "That's two games we've had against them and twice we've scored in the last minute.
"They aren't as bad a side as people think and they are fighting for their lives. We would rather play a mid-table side."
Corsham edged out lowly Street 1-0 in a tight game at The Southbank on Tuesday evening.
Liam Fullam headed the only goal of the game on 20 minutes when he nodded in a flick-on from brother Craig Fullam.
Gingell said he thought it would be a heavy scoring game after Liam Fullam netted early on.
Gingell said: "I thought we would run away with it but they battled very hard and caused us a few problems.
"Our back four stood fast and we came away with a good result which keeps us up there. I thought our back four was strong and we did not look like conceding.
Matty Windle played very well.
"You can't win every game 3-0 but they have got used to winning, that's the main thing with them."
