Still all to play for in title race
THE destination of the Toolstation League Premier Division title could be decided by the outcome of two games being played within 10 miles of each other in north Wiltshire tomorrow.
Reigning champions Corsham Town go head-to-head with fellow title challengers Dawlish Town at The Southbank, while just down the road at Bremhill View, Calne Town host leaders and championship favourites Truro City.
Although seven points behind Truro and having played two games more, Corsham boss Mel Gingell insists his side are still in the title race and will be looking to neighbours Calne to do his side a favour by beating the Cornish visitors tomorrow.
Truro still have to travel to The Southbank to play Gingell's side at the beginning of April.
Gingell says his team can finish top but admits if they lose to Dawlish tomorrow their challenge will be over.
Gingell said: "I still think we're in the running, but if we don't turn them over we're playing for second or third place.
"It's still in our hands but we've got to beat Dawlish whatever happens.
"They won't give us a hiding. They've got two good strikers but I'm confident our back four can hold them.
"I've said all along it's about trying to finish the top side in Wiltshire, and we've got an unbeaten home record that we've got to keep intact.
"As far as I'm concerned they have done brilliant but I don't want to be out of the top three whatever happens.
"At the end of the day we've had a great season from where we started."
Gingell wants Calne do his team a good turn and beat Truro at Bremhill View tomorrow, and he is confident Robbie Lardner's men can spring a surprise.
Gingell said: "If Calne play as well as they did against us you can see them causing a problem.
"Against us they played exceptionally well and proved they are a decent side.
"They have got some good players and I just hope they go out and show what they are worth."
The omens are positive for Gingell as Calne took Truro the full distance in the first round of the Les Phillips Cup in November.
The Lillywhites lost 4-2 in extra-time and were very close to springing a surprise.
Gingell said: "I watched them play in the cup and they were very unlucky to go out that night."
