Still with a chance of avoiding relegation then. There are only 18 teams in The Premier Division due to Dawlish pulling out at the start of the 2011-2012 Season.TWL Handbook Para 2.10 says "there should be 22 clubs in each Division where possible". Merthyr Town are being promoted, that leaves 17 teams. So the league has lost 2 teams, so does that mean the 2 teams normally relegated will be reprieved?
Buckland Athletic from The SWPL have applied to join The Premier League and have finished 2 nd in the league, ground grading OK as far as i know, so should be accepted, that makes 18 teams.
Cadbury Heath and Melksham Town finished 1 st and 2 nd respectively in Division 1, but have they got the required ground grading to enable promotion?
Melksham Town-Changing rooms too small and possible ground safety issues.
Cadbury Heath-The ground is not enclosed by a permenant boundary to prevent spectators from viewing the game from outside the ground.
I'm not saying this is the case with these 2 teams, but some teams will spend money on a playing budget in order to obtain promotion instead of on obtaining the ground grading which is unfair to the teams that have spent the money to obtain the grading. Handsworth FC have just finished top of The Northern Counties East League but have been relegated as they have not complied with ground grading requirements.
Winterbourne who applied to join The Premier League, finished 3 rd in The Hellenic League Division 1 West and have been told they are in a promotion position as Tytherington Rocks and Old Woodstock Town who finished 1 st and 2 nd respectively will not be promoted as they do not have the required ground grading, however the latest is that they have opted to go into The Hellenic League Premier Division.
Will Clevedon Town who finished next to bottom in The Southern League Division 1 South and West be relegated? Probably not as no club has come down into The WL Premier League since the mid 1980's.
However Merthyr Town and Winchester City who both won their leagues have applied to go into The SL Div1 S & W which has only 20 teams so would probably be accomodated without any relegation.
So summing this up, if Cadbury Heath and Melksham Town are promoted and there is no relegation from The Premier League there will be a total of 20 teams in this division, stll 2 teams short of the 22 teams The FA and Western League Committee desire. If 2 teams are relegated from The Premier Division the league will consist of only 18 teams which is not acceptable.
