ILFRACOMBE TOWN are aiming to appoint a North Devon-based manager to replace Barry Yeo.
There has been a slow response from potential bosses since Yeo announced he was going to stand down last month.
But Ilfracombe hope there will be greater interest following the decision at a club meeting to remain in the Toolstation Western League.
Allan Day, the outgoing chairman, said: "Let's try to stay local, keep the lads together and see how it goes.
"It was a very positive meeting with a great turnout.
"We have three or four very good potential chairman willing to come on board and we are looking to extend the clubhouse and have new dressing rooms."
The new chairman will be voted in by club members at the annual meeting next month.
Anyone interested in becoming the new manager can discuss the role in confidence with Allan Day. Call him on 07817 217109 or write a letter to the club.
Departing managers Yeo and Owen Pickard signed off with defeats on Saturday.
Merthyr Town clinched the premier division title with a 1-0 win over Yeo's Ilfracombe Town. Bitton had to settle for second place despite winning 3-1 at Pickard's Barnstaple Town.
A crowd of more than 700 saw Ilfracombe make Merthyr work hard for their win. It came through Ryan Prosser's goal 20 minutes from time, finishing from close range after being set up by Garry Shephard.
At Mill Road, Bitton led 1-0 at half time but only after Billy Tucker scuffed a penalty wide.
Aaron Blakemore and Robert Smart put the visitors 3-0 up in the second half before Stan Paxton pulled one back for Barnstaple.
