Re: Gum Graft Post-Op Instructions - PLEASE HELP!!
Posted by Ron on 6/15/2008, 8:41 pm, in reply to "Gum Graft Post-Op Instructions - PLEASE HELP!!"
I'm in a similar situation. I had a gum graft on my lower front teeth by removing tissue from the roof of my mouth. I was told not to brush the grafted area at all for a week. Also, I didn't receive any mouthwash or instructions to keep the area clean. I have not brushed my front teeth or chewed any food with them, but I am noticing that food/plaque looks to be getting stuck in my Lower front teeth. After informing my dentist about it, she said I could use a wet Q-tip and gently pat the area to remove any food. I've tried this, and while it did remove some food/plaque, it looks like there is still some left.
The thing is, I cannot tell if the material is indeed food/plaque or the partially dissolving stitching used to hold the graft. Gently patting the area is not removing this material and I don't want to rub or press hard, in fear of moving the graft. I just hate the thought of not brushing and letting plaque sit there, possibly defeating the whole purpose of having the graft in the first place. I'm afraid it will cause the gums to recede anyway.
Was anybody else uncomfortable about not brushing the grafted area for an entire week and letting plaque build up? What did you do? Any advice?
