I had a crown lengthening about 5 years ago. It didn't hurt. I had novacaine. Usually once a tooth is root canaled, then the root starts to rot and finally you lose the tooth anyway, so why bother. Just have an immediate implant and be done with it. I AM SPEAKING FROM EXPERIENCE!!!!!
