Looking for info on choosing a Cosmetic Dentist?

Hi, I just don't feel right about my diagnosis I'm getting from my dentist. I think I have a failed root canal, but my dentist feels that I have occlusion and I now have a bite splint from an oral surgeon upon this dentist's recommendation. The dentist has also recommended braces and jaw surgery. I feel the jaw surgery is excessive. Would you recommend I get a second opinion? Thank you for your help tonight.
