As I read your message, it seems to me that there are several "unknowns." e.g., Any chance your dental work will require some additional service , such as sinus lifts or tissue grafts? (If so, they could affect your total cost.) For comparison purposes, I can tell you that in the summer of 2003, I received a single implant on a top front tooth (along with a couple of new and one replacement crowns on the three adjacent ones). The project was pretty straightforward, with no additional work required, and was done in Southern California. The total cost of just my implant was around $3,700 — although I did receive $120 from our insurance company to cover part of the extraction, plus a generous discount from my dentist for paying the full cost in advance. So, while it does seem like the cost you've been quoted is on the high side, when you consider how much costs of everything else have risen in the past 6 years, it may not be that much out-of-line. If confirming that would make you feel better, why not call a few comparable dental practices and find out what they would charge for the same work.
