    Hi Chris,
I can't really tell you about your dentists fees but I can tell you the fees that I was charged for a total of four anterior maxillary extractions, implants, crowns and abutments.

The four extractions and immediate implants were done by an oral surgeon. His total fees for that was $8300. The price did not include any ridge augmentations or plastic gum regeneration. I did have some "bone in a bottle" inserted and a collegen membrane to help my gumline done at the time of surgery and it included two pan xrays, one before and one after.

I then went to my regular dentist after approximately 6 months healing, for the abutments and crowns. His cost was a total of $4700 for the four, $800 and $375 ($1175 each) for the crowns and abutments respectively. I also paid him $1200 for a removable metal partial that I used while the implants healed.

CS is correct in that the abutment is what attaches the implant to the crown and is a necessary part of an implanted tooth.
You can't just attach a crown to an implant alone. The implant is like an inverted inside out screw (some have expandable wings). The abutment screws into the implant and the crown is then attached to the abutment post. The abutment is required and is usually a separate charge.

Implants, abutments and crowns come in different prices depending on aesthetics, too. My cost were based on titanium implants and regular abutments with porcelain fused to noble metal crowns. About as base as you can get.

Your dentist may be using zirconium implants and abutments which are more expensive but are more aesthetically pleasing for front teeth.

Hope this helps some. If you are unsure, you should ask the dentists involved with your care exactly what is and isn't included with their fees.

Best to you and let us know how you do.
    Gellia
